Anglican Technical College, WS

Anglican Technical College Western Sydney, the Sydney Anglican Schools Corporation's sixteenth school, is a revolutionary change from the traditional high school environment. At this new trade college, students can focus on their vocational pathway while they are in their senior years, get their HSC, start a job and hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ in a very real and concrete setting.

Students spend 5-6 week blocks at school receiving trade or career training and completing their HSC study and then spend the alternate 5-6 weeks in an apprenticeship or traineeship, getting real on-the-job experience and earning wages. In this revolutionary system, the students' schooling is based around their chosen vocation and focus.

The College offers a variety of pathways which all lead to trade qualifications.  At the same time students complete their HSC, doing core HSC subjects of English, Mathematics and Business Studies, but also related career electives such as Information Technology, Food Technology and Industrial Technology Wood, as well an integral Work Readiness Program to prepare them for the workplace.  Enhancing this, every subject taught within the College is contextualized so that it relates back to the students' trade and their employability skills.

The College has a full-time Industry Liaison Officer who helps students obtain an apprenticeship in their desired area. There are many benefits of this scheme for employers as well, one of these being able to find the right employee for their business.

The College is also a Registered Training Organization, TechWest Sydney, providing onsite training as an alternative to students having to go off site to TAFE. TechWest at present is delivering training in areas such as carpentry, electro-technology, business services, information technology, first-aid, OH & S white card, commercial cookery and bricklaying.

Through our Registered Training Organization, we can offer a number of different VET options for students through a variety of delivery modes. Students can attend our campus one day or afternoon per week; we can deliver the course to students on their own campus using TechWest trainers or we can train school staff to deliver the course and act as the RTO, completing all paperwork involved.

If you are interested in joining us at ATCWS or in TechWest training courses, call us at (02) 9851 8888 to organize a tour of the College, receive more information or pick up an Enrolment Pack. Interested employers can contact Alan McPherson at the College. (www.atcws.com.au)
