Bigger than the Rudd Revolution
Posted on 04 June 2010
Never before has an Australian government attempted to bring about as many changes of a comprehensive kind as has the Rudd Government since 2007. The scope of the Education Revolution is impressive, although it is too early to assess its impact on the day to day teaching and learning in schools. In his opening address at the Christian Schools National Policy Forum in Canberra on the 24th May, the CEO of the Anglican Education Commission, Dr Bryan Cowling, asserted that the challenges facing Christians involved in education in Australia were even greater than those being addressed by the Rudd Government.
In his address he identified nine areas in which a revolution in thinking and practice was necessary.
- The need to create an authentic Australian Christian approach to education
- The need to engage pro-actively with the curriculum
- The need to take seriously the integration of faith and learning
- The need to invest more in the continuing professional development of teachers
- The need to identify and prepare the next generation of Christian leaders in education
- The need for a revolution in scholarship
- The need to recruit more Christians into teaching
- The need to take the revolution to the churches
- The need to stand together
